The Write to Vote Project seeks submissions that explain, defend, and advance voting rights in the United States and around the world. Efforts to restrict or prevent voting are as old as democracy itself, but voting rights are imperative in the pursuit of equality, freedom, and justice. The Write to Vote Project publishes work that supports voting rights to those democratic ends.
We do publish:
- Opinion, analysis, and social commentary that draws on credible evidence to make a strong argument about voting rights
- Points of view that reflect a variety of political positions
- A variety of genres, including op-eds, commentaries, long-form essays, videos, short fiction, poetry, and more. We especially encourage submissions from college students.
We do not publish:
- Opinion, analysis, and social commentary that threatens, attacks, or insults people or groups. We are not opposed to strong, passionate, even bitter disagreements, but we will not make space for hate and/or violence.
- Advertisements, endorsements, or product promotions
- Previously published pieces or pieces that have been accepted elsewhere, except in special circumstances as agreed to by the editors.
Our Process
Our goal is to publish high-quality texts from a variety of perspectives and authors. To that end, we will review submissions with attention to (1) their appropriateness to our mission and (2) the quality of arguments and evidence. Where appropriate, we will work with authors to revise and strengthen pieces that we think will advance the goals of the Write to Vote Project with some development.

We expect authors to edit their pieces for spelling, grammar, and punctuation as appropriate, but we reserve the right to make minor edits prior to publication. At the copy-editing stage, however, we will not make any edits that change the meaning of your accepted text.
Authors retain all rights to their published pieces, which are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license.
